Goal 1: Build a functioning, vibrant national coalition
- Work with the coordinating committee and facilitate monthly meetings
- Develop the structure of the coalition and open a national office
- Assist local groups in holding regional meetings and work with the coordinating committee to plan an annual national meeting
- Develop and offer a training program on long-range planning, fundraising and advocacy
- Build relationships with local government and the Ministry of the Environment
- Connect to regional and international environmental movements
Goal 2: Create and maintain a web-based clearinghouse
- Create a national directory that can be searched by department, village, or area of focus
- Gather best practices for Haiti
- Include general information on relevant topics
- Maintain severe weather and travel blogs
- Include image galleries and video when possible
- Make available existing educational and training materials
- Assist local groups in connecting to share existing resources
Goal 3: Support the Youth for the Development of Cyvadier (JDS) in improving the quality of life in Cyvadier
- Improve the nutriton of the community through a tree nursery, youth orchard, and community garden
- Improve hygiene in community by building latrines and offering basic training adapted from “Where There is No Doctor”
- Improve santitation with programs on composting and waste management
- Support program with US partners to improve the water systemMaintain and develop relationships with students at the Coconut Creek High School, Global Village, Jim&Tonya Sneed, other funders, and Jim Wzorek's seed-donating network
Goal 4: Coordinate activities for the environment in Haiti’s southeastern department
- Build an environmental center in Cyvadier
- Work to make the JDS project a replicable youth project model
- Support satellite tree nursery in the Jacmel region
- Convene departmental meetings and represent the southeast in the national coalition
- Experiment with new strategies for charcoal substitutes, irrigation, nutritonal trees, biodiesel, etc.
- Coordinate strategic planning for Jacmel on waste management, beach clean-up, tree planting and charcoal substitution
- Develop and execute a departmental plan for greenbelts to reduce erosion along the Jacmel river and in other strategic locationsMaintain a relationship with the mayor of Jacmel and explore the possibility of establishing an environmental park in Jacmel
Goal 5: In partnership with the Environmental Law Institute, assist the judiciaries in Haiti to play an informed and effective role in protecting and conserving biodiversity by upholding Haiti’s environmental and conservation laws including multilateral environmental agreements to which they are party
- Increase the judiciary’s awareness of the need for biodiversity conservation and the role of environmental and natural resources law and the judiciary in protecting and conserving biodiversity.
- Build the judiciary’s capacity to conserve biodiversity by advancing its understanding of national and international law regarding biodiversity; the relationship of such law with science, technology, and economics; and enforcement and compliance issues.
- Provide tools for continuing learning and reference after the training is completed.Institutionalize training in biodiversity conservation within the judicial education system in Haiti with the ultimate goal that every judge in Haiti will receive this training.
- Foster a network of jurists, legal practitioners, and scholars that can further these objectives by engaging these groups in the development and implementation of the training program, assisting them in institutionalizing the program in Haiti, and encouraging the growth of working relationships among the judiciary in Haiti, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.
