Saturday mornings are the time to find the kids of JDS (Youth for the Development of Cyvadier) hard at work in their tree nursery, which - lucky for me - is currently located in my front yard. Last night the older kids who mentor the small ones came to begin cooking today's meal - rice, beans and vegetables with chicken. Dooby, Betrand and Joassaint are some of the most reliable in the group, along with Cyblie (pictured below).
This morning Bernot (at right), Cyblie, Jacob and a few others came early to cut open the discarded water sacks the group collects from around the village to use for starting new trees. Dooby was working hard on the rest of the meal while Wilnerson was watering the trees we are planning to plant over the next couple of weeks.
It's a beautiful sight - these kids working together for the village. I especially enjoy the older kids and their devotion not only to the project but to the small children. They prepare the food with such care and take pride in all the aspects of the job.
